Pimp your Giraffe

Project 2: Quilt and embellish a small panel

Went to Twisted Threads at the weekend with mum for a bit of quilting mania. Saw some AMAZING pieces which were really pieces of art, bought loads of material, Oooohhhed and Ahhh'd at the gorgeous traditional quilts and took a workshop.

The workshop was run by a.....rather large woman, wearing what can only be described as a tie-dyed sheet with a hole cut in the middle for her head. She was however perfectly nice but I'm guessing she keeps cats. The task was to take a square of cotton, on to which she had printed an African animal, quilt and embellish at will. I was expecting a little more direction but it was pretty fun and I came away with a few ideas.

So I chose a giraffe...or rather mum and I were rather late getting to the class and it was pretty much all that was left. The photo is not the greatest but I have quilted diagonally both ways across to hold the print and wadding in place. To embellish all I have done so far is provide my giraffe with some grass :)

Possibly next I will give him some glitz....pimp your giraffe? but really this is going to be a sampler to see what I can do and perhaps learn for future projects.
